Volunteers give free treatment in slum
Dhaka, June 24 (bdnews24.com) ? A volunteer organisation has given medical care to 159 slum-dwellers in the capital.
'Aniruddha', a team from the World Bank-supported Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre (BYLC), arranged the free treatment and medicine distribution for the residents of Korail slum on Friday.
The organisation's leadership coordinator Niyama Islam told bdnews24.com two doctors from Dhaka Medical College Hospital examined 58 children, 76 women and 25 men from 10am to 12.30pm at the slum.
The organisation also distributed free medicine, she said.
Niyama added that seven dustbins had been placed in the slum and posters to raise awareness put up.
Six teams from BYLC are working to sensitise dwellers in the slums about health, education, sanitation, water, employment and right to information law.
