Mawa-Keraniganj traffic resumes
Dhaka, June 23 (bdnews24.com)?Vehicular movement between Mawa and Keraniganj has resumed after two hours of a strike.
Rickshaw and van pullers imposed the strike around 8am on Thursday, demanding daylong movement of their non-mechanised three wheelers across the bridge.
Some pullers claimed that police had detained them and seized their rickshaws as they had crossed the bridge to Babubazar, and released them only after 8pm.
The decision to stop rickshaw and van crossing the bridge during daytime was imposed to reduce traffic jams, acting traffic inspector Nurul Islam told bdnews24.com.
The people's representative and administrative officials went to the spot and discussed the issue with the pullers.
The pullers withdrew the strike around 10am following Keraniganj upazila chairman Shaheen Ahmed's assurance of free rickshaw movement on the bridge.
