8 held with liquor at Fantasy Kingdom
Gazipur, June 24 (bdnews24.com) ? Eight people, including the organiser of a dance party, have been arrested along with huge illegal foreign liquor at Fantasy Kingdom of Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital.
Sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station Mahfuza Begum told bdnews24.com they seized 50 bottles of whisky, vodka, rum and gin and around 300 cans of beer in a raid on the amusement park early on Friday.
A narcotics case was filed against Fantasy officials Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Pradip Kumar and Jamil Hossain, and the detainees, she added.
The arrestees are dance party organiser S M Riad-ul-Huq, 25, and his associates Hasibul Hassan, 30, Mohammad Asabud-Ullah, 27, Mohid Islam, 26, Sharif Asiful, 20, Asif Haider, 23, Ariful Huq, 20, and Kazi Rois Uddin, 56. They were taken into Ashulia police custody.
Department of Narcotics Control's deputy director (Dhaka zone) S M Mahfuzur Rahman led the drive that lasted for one and a half hours from 1am.
Gazipur inspector of the department Dewan Mohammad Zillur Rahman and RAB-1 officials were also present during the drive.
Zillur said, "One Rescue Communications booked 56 rooms of the park for the party where dancers were hired from different countries, including Germany."
Tickets, priced between Tk 2,000 and Tk 8,000, were sold out two days ahead of the show, where some 250 people, aged between 16 and 25, were in attendance, he said.
However, in a press release later, Fantasy Kingdom authorities denied any kind of involvement of its officials in the incident.
They said the organisers brought the liquor violating the contract with them.
