Eight new booters join national camp

National football coach Nikola Ilievski in his bid to strengthen his arsenal included eight more booters in the squad that will face Lebanon in the World Cup pre-qualifiers scheduled to be held on July 23 and 28 at Beirut and Dhaka respectively.

The Macedonian said these players matched his requirements.

“I have certain plans and I think these players can deliver things for the team. I will declare the 20-member squad after the semifinals of the Super Cup. I think can gear the team up in a new mould,” said Ilievski.

The coach thought Aminul was doing well and it would have been better if he was available for the national fold.

The players included are Waly Faisal (Sheikh Jamal), Md Shujon (Sheikh Jamal), Shafiqul Islam Bipul (Dhaka Mohammedan), Touhidul Alam Touhid (Dhaka Mohammedan), Abdul Hamid Sheikh Vashani (Dhaka Mohammedan), Shariful Islam (Dhaka Mohammedan), Faisal Mahmud (Brothers Union) and Ziaur Rahman Zia (Dhaka Abahani).

Govt appoints five national professors

The government has appointed five eminent academicians of the country as National Professors for next five years, a PID release said Monday. The appointed National Professors are-Prof Sardar Fazlul Karim, former professor of Dhaka University (DU), Prof A F Salahauddin Ahmed, former professor of History department of DU, Prof Dr Mustafa Nurul Islam, former professor of Jahangirnagar University and former Director General of Bangla Academy, Prof Shahela Khatun, former professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Prof Dr Rangalal Sen, former professor of Sociology department of DU.
