Veteran Sylhet journo passes away
Sylhet, July 16 (bdnews24.com) ? Sudhindra Bijoy Das, a veteran journalist of Sylhet district, has passed away. He was 79.
He breathed his last at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH), where he was undergoing treatment, at around 11:30am on Saturday, his son Rajib Das confirmed bdnews24.com.
Sudhindra, who was suffering from heart and kidney diseases, was admitted to SOMCH on Wednesday as his condition deteriorated.
The body has been kept in the hospital. His cremation will take place at Chalibandar cremation ground on Sunday at 4pm.
The veteran journalist worked with Eastern Herald, weekly Jugovery, Bangladesh Observer and The Daily Star since 1965. Besides, he was also a consultant to some local newspapers.
Sudhindra was a well-known social commentator and historian of Sylhet and Kachhar (Assam province in India) regions.
He actively spearheaded cooperative movement in the 80s and early 90s, and was an honorary secretary of the Sylhet Cooperative Bank.
Sudhindra, who lost his wife only months ago, is survived by two sons and a daughter.
