BFF endorses Sk Jamal, R'ganj fines

Dhaka, July 16 (bdnews24.com) - The executive committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has upheld the fines imposed on Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Rahamatganj MFS for playing a 'match under agreement' in the Bangladesh League.

BFF on Saturday endorsed the stiff penalties of Tk 2 million for Sheikh Jamal and Tk 0.5 million for Rahamatganj which were recommended last week by the Bangladesh League probe committee.

The sanctions will come into effect in a day or so after the BFF issues a letter to the offending clubs and officials. It was learned there is no right of appeal against the fines.

Professional League Committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedy announced the decisions in a press conference later at BFF House.

The BFF has also decided to suspend Rahamatganj football secretary Salahuddin Kala for three years and the club's goalkeeper Iran Sheikh for two years.

Muktijoddha Krira Chakra coach Maruful Haque has also been banned for two months for allegedly offering Kala Tk 350,000.

Despite conceding two goals in the first half, Sheikh Jamal beat Rahmatganj 5-2 in the Bangladesh League match played on June 11.

Last week, the probe committee had investigated the matter and submitted its report to BFF president Kazi Salahuddin.

Murshedy also reiterated his views on the incident by saying that the June 11 match between the two teams was not a fixed one.

"It was a match of concurrence, not fixed?but they are similar?," he told the briefing.

Asked, how the committee proposed the action against the clubs if the match was not fixed, he said, "On seeing video footages and speaking with the players and the officials of the two teams, we are convinced that the match wasn't a competing one. The two teams played in concurrence. So, we made those suggestions to the BFF executive committee."

"We couldn't recommend anything else for the lack of evidence. We've suggested assigning government detectives to investigate into the matter so as to find more evidence," Murshedy added.

Sk Jamal, Abahani reach semis

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club topped Group A of the Grameenphone Super Cup with a lack lustre goalless draw against Dhaka Abahani at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.

The draw saw Sheikh Jamal at the top of the group with four points while Dhaka Abahani finished runners-up with two points. The new powerhouse thrashed Brothers Union 6-1 earlier. Dhaka Abahani played another goalless draw with Brothers Union in their previous match. It meant that Abahani secured a last four slot without scoring a goal.

Sheikh Jamal who was confirmed of a semifinal slot even if they had lost the match were little worried about winning rather concentrated on not conceding a goal. Abahani on the other hand started with an attacking attitude which gradually faded away.

Abahani’s best chance came in the 16th minute of the match when Ghanaian forward Twum Frank pouncing on an Awudu Ibrahim through pass found Jamal custodian Aminul alone under the bar palmed away the Ibrahim’s placing.

Twum Frank missed the flight of an Awudu cross in the 26th minute which was curved form the right hand flag much to the relief of Aminul who was stranded in the near post.

Jamal came close in the 35th minute but winger Shakil fed by Staefan Loga Bouga with a nice chip blasted over the crosspiece from the middle of the box.

Abahani midfielder Uzzal lashed on a clearance off a Robin corner on the 60th minute but saw his volley miss the crosspiece by few inches.

As the match proceeded it became a drab affair as both the teams took a relaxed approach till the final whistle.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club clinch Bangladesh League title

New comer Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club made history by clinching the prestigious title of the GrameenPhone Bangladesh League with a 2-2 goals draw with Brothers Union Club at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.

The star-studded Sheikh Jamal as first team to clinch the major title of the country in their first appearance in the top flight football.

The Sheikh Jamal supporters, wearing club jersey and flags in hand at the west gallery, burst into a joy when referee Abdul Hannan Miron blew the final whistle of the play.

The club players and officials embraced each others with joy on the ground while club supporters chanting slogan from the big bowl saying "Sheikh Jamal, Sheikh Jamal".

With the day's outcome, Sheikh Jamal finished top of the points table with 51 points from 22 matches while Brothers Union remained in the 5th position with 30 points with the last match against Dhaka Abahani Limited.

In the day's match, defender Mohammad Sujan and Cameroonian forward Sergio Chico scored one goal each for Sheikh Jamal while Nigerian forward Kingsley Chigozie and Brazilian striker Everton Souzaa Santos netted one goal apiece for Brothers Union Club.

Nigerian forward Kingsley put Brothers ahead in the 12th minute with a spectacular fashion. Taking control of a Faisal Mahmood chip he took an angular short at the middle of the D-box beating experienced Sheikh Jamal goalie cum custodian Aminul Haque (1-0).

Defender Shujon equalized the margin from a penalty in the 62nd minute. His fierce spot kick gave no chance to Brothers Union custodian Utaam to react (1-1).

Three minutes later Sheikh Jamal celebrated the lead as Cameroonian forward Sergio Chico headed the ball into the empty net after receiving a right flank cross from Nigerian winger Femi Orunimi (2-1).

However Brothers came back into the game with another penalty in the 74th minute. Waly Faisal brought Brothers Brazilian midfielder Everton in the middle of the box and Everton made no mistake to covert thew spot kick.

After the match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club coach Packer Ali said he found the booters mentally down when he took charge of the team in the middle of the league.

He said he greatly motivated the players after taking team's charge to improve performance of the booters in the league.

Packer Ali said "It was a great experience for me as a coaching career to clinch the prestigious title and this credit will help my future career.

Asked if he stay with Sheikh Jamal Club after the Super Cup, Paker "I have yet to decide about it but now I need long rest."

Brothers Union coach Wasim Iqbal, who was unhappy with the day's team outcome said the result could have been different if referee would not give the controversial penalty against them.

Sheikh Jamal- Aminul, Waly Faisal, Reza, Sujan, Mamunul, Meshu (Enamul), Shakil, Nasir, Sergio (Mintu), Femi and Loga Bouga.

Muktijoddha keep Sk Jamal waiting

Muktijoddha Sangsad KC edged past hosts Chittagong Mohammedan 2-1 at the Cox’s Bazar stadium on Monday to keep Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club waiting for their title.

Jamal could have won the title if Muktijoddha had dropped points in this game, but goals from Arman Aziz and James Moga in two halves kept slim hopes for them of championship.

Jamal, with 50 points from 21 matches, three more than Muktijoddha, will be champions if they beat Brothers Union in their last game on Wednesday. Even if they lose the game and Muktijoddha fail to beat Rahmatganj, the title will be Jamal’s.

Muktijoddha can be champions only if Jamal lose to Brothers and they beat Rahmatganj as they have a better goal difference (+33) compare to Jamal’s +30.

Ace midfielder Arman Aziz gave Muktijoddha an early lead and tournament’s highest scorer James Moga doubled the lead with his 17th goal five minutes into the second half.

Shahedul Islam, however, pulled one back in the 68th minute for the hosts but the final result was not enough to reduce the port City Club’s relegation tension. They are now 11th in the league standings with 17 points with one game left.

Meanwhile, Arambagh KS registered a 2-0 victory over Farashganj SC to beat the drop having earned 24 points. The defeat means Farashganj, the Independence Cup champions, are now in relegation danger as they have only 19 points and are in ninth place.

Two teams will be relegated from the 12 with Chittagong Abahani already being confirmed of it. Farashganj, Chittagong Mohammedan and Feni Soccer are the three teams who are now in danger zone.
