Mojaheed, Sayedee seek bail 5th time

Dhaka, July 10 (bdnews24.com) ? Detained war crimes suspects, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Delwar Hossain Sayedee, have appealed for bail for the fifth time.

Their lawyers, Munshi Ahsan Kabir and barrister Tanvir Ahmed Al-Amin, submitted the bail petitions to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday.

"Sayedee is suffering from several diseases. There is no reason for him to obstruct the inquiry as investigation against him is over," Tanvir told bdnews24.com explaining the causes for pressing bail pleas.

Supreme Court registrar Shahinoor Islam said the bail petitions would be heard on the days fixed for next hearing of the charges against them.

The tribunal is scheduled to hear the charges against Sayedee on July 11 and against Mojaheed on the following day along with that of three other leaders of the party.

Earlier, the tribunal has rejected their bail petitions four times.

Jamaat chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, assistant secretaries general Muhammad Kamaruzzaman and Muhammad Abdul Quader Molla are the three other leaders arrested on charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

Apart from the five Jamaat leaders, two BNP leaders have also been arrested on the same charges since formation of the tribunal on Mar 25 last year.

Of the two, BNP MP Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury is behind the bars while Abdul Alim, a minister of Ziaur Rahman's cabinet, is out on conditional bail.
