'BCL gave both heroes and traitors'
Dhaka, July 10 (bdnews24.com)?The Awami League general secretary has said the party's student wing played a unique role during the military-backed regime that took over Jan 11, 2007.
"Chhatra League has given birth to both heroes and traitors," Syed Ashraful Islam said at Bangladesh Chhatra League's two-day 27th national council on Sunday.
"Chhatra League's role after Sheikh Hasina's arrest was unique. Some culprits posing as Chhatra League supporters had tried to foil that movement. Our president had heard everything from the court," Ashraf said.
The local government minister said there were some 'unpleasant incidents' to sabotage the movement to free Hasina, at Dhaka's Shahbag.
Ashraf outlined the contributions of Chhatra League in politics. "We are now here, me, the prime minister ? we all started from this organisation. Chhatra League has led every democratic movement in our history," he said.
He said that artists, writers, scientists and even justices of the higher courts had come form Chhatra League.
