ICT to hear Sayedee charge-framing Aug 10

Dhaka, July 14 (bdnews24.com) ?The International Crimes Tribunal will hear the framing of charges against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee on Aug 10.

Taking the war crimes charges against the Jamaat executive council member into cognisance, the tribunal set the date in his presence on Thursday.

Set up at the old High Court building, the tribunal also asked the prosecution to submit all detailed documents, on the charges against Sayedee, to it by July 19.

The tribunal heard Sayedee's bail petition until 11:30am. The Jamaat leader was taken to the tribunal in the morning.

Prosecutors had formally presented the charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971 against the Jamaat leader on July 3.

Sayedee was arrested on July 30 last year. He faces charges of war crimes in Pirojpur, his hometown, during the war, where around 30,000 people were killed and dumped in 12 mass graves.

Apart from Sayedee, Jamaat chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and assistant secretaries general Mohammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Molla have all been arrested on war crimes charges.

Senior BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Abdul Alim, a former minister in Ziaur Rahman's cabinet, were also arrested on similar charges.

Of the seven Jamaat and BNP leaders facing war crimes charges, Alim is on conditional bail while the remaining six are in jail.
