1-truck bullet case rolls after 6 yrs

Bogra, July 13 (bdnews24.com) ? After six-and a half years, a Bogra court has started recording testimonies in the case over recovery of one-truck ammunition and explosives.

Acting judge Kazi Shahina Nigar of Bogra fourth district and session's judges' court took witness statements on Wednesday and set Aug 23 for the next hearing.

According to the case statement, locals of Jogarpara village under Kahalu upazila seized a truck and looted 99,969 rounds of Chinese Rifle bullets and 174 kg explosives from it on June 23 in 2003.

Later, Dupchanchia police recovered the cache from different houses and ponds in the area, including the house of Krishak League leader Aflatur Rahman Pintu.

Bogra district judges' court acting public prosecutor (PP) Helalur Rahman said: "The witnesses on the case -- then Dupchanchia Police Station officer in-charge (OC) A F M Jabid Hossain, Mojam Mandal and Altaf Hossain were summoned by the court for testimony."

But only Mandal appeared before the court, which ordered producing the rest of the witnesses during the next hearing.

Four cases were filed in connection with the cache -- two with Kahalu police by OC Jabid and another two with Dupchanchia police by its OC Ohidul Islam.

On Sep 11 the same year, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) pressed four charge-sheets indicting six people.

The accused are Pintu, his wife Bithi, driver Altu Mia, truck owner Ashish Dev Barma amd Atikur Rahman Dulu of Tentultola area and Harun-ur-Rashid Jalal of Malotinagar.

PP Helalur said: "The High Court stayed the case proceedings on Feb 27 in 2005 following Dulu's petition."

But after recent dismissal of a review petition by Altu Mia, the proceedings of the other three cases has resumed, he said.
