CPB, BASAD protest for 4 principals
Dhaka, July 13 (bdnews24.com) ? Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BASAD) have held a protest rally demanding restoration of the constitution of 1972 with its four fundamental principles.
The CPB and BASAD held the rally in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday afternoon following a protest march.
BASAD general secretary Khalequzzaman at the rally said the constitution had turned into a 'junk' document through the 15th Amendment.
"If you say Bangladesh is a non-communal country, Islam can never be there in the constitution as the state religion," he said.
Khalequzzaman demanded restoration of the four basic principles of the '72 Constitution, the constitutional recognition of the indigenous people and a speedy war crimes trial.
He also urged the like-minded leftist political parties to be united on the same platform to raise movement against the government's different 'hasty' decisions.
CPD president Manzurul Ahsan Khan, general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, BASAD central committee members A K M Zahirul Islam and Rajukuzzaman Ratan were also present at the rally.
