Olympic day celebrations begin
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) in its bid to mark the occasion of Olympic Day 2011 and spread the message of Olympicism initiated its nine day program with plantation of tree at the BOA House premises on Wednesday.
BOA will host the Olympic Day Run 2011 on Friday, June 24 which will also be simultaneously held in all the six divisions and 64 districts across the country.

To add more attraction and involve all the quarters of the society, BOA has chalked out a series of programs which highlights the birth of modern Olympic movement back in 1894.
The program includes tree plantation, a photo exhibition and competition titled ‘Tradition of Bangladesh Sports’, a sports competition for street children, a seminar on Sports and Environment and a painting competition for school children and a blood donation program.
To complete this wide array of programmes Coca-Cola Far East Limited, Exim Bank, Dhaka Bank, United Commercial Bank, Ashiyan City, RSRM and Blazer BD have come forward as sponsors. The budget for the programme is an estimated Tk 0.89 million.
A press conference in this regard was held at the BOA auditorium on Wednesday. BOA secretary general Kutubuddin Ahmed urged all to participate in the Olympic Movement that highlights peace, patience, harmony and the spirit of sports.
“I urge all to get involved with the spirit of Olympics to maintain a healthy mind and body. In the complex scenario of modern life, sports can provide the required stimuli for a healthy lifestyle.” said the BOA secretary general.
The BOA secretary general said BOA will distribute a total of 50000 tree plants to different organizations.
BOA vice president and the convener of Olympic Day Organising Committee Sirajul Islam Bachchu, deputy secretary general Anisur Rahman Dipu, convener of Media Committee Md Anisur Rahman and member secretary Hasanullah Khan Rana, BOA CEO Col (Rtd) M Waliullah, Nurul Fazal Bulbul, the director of Exim Bank, Cynthia Rodgers, the Administrative Assistant of Coca Cola Far East Ltd were also present on the occasion.
A seminar on ‘Sports and Environment’ was held at 3:00 pm at the same venue. Mahfuzur Rahman Siddiki, the Course Director of BOA presented the key note. The Art Competition will be held at the BOA House on Thursday at 3:00pm.
