‘Hasan wanted to kill Rumana’

Author / Source : STAFF REPORTERDhaka, June 22: Investigators believe that Hasan Sayed, who brutally attacked his wife Rumana Monzur, was plotting to kill her by strangulation.
The assistant professor of International Relations at Dhaka University had her eyes gouged out and her nose bitten off in her Dhanmondi home on 5 June.
Sub-inspector Bahauddin Farooquee, the investigation officer of the case accompanied by additional deputy commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan and additional deputy commissioner M Masud met with Rumana for the first time on Wednesday.
Rumana was taken to India on June 14 for specialist treatment.
Additional deputy commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan told The Independent, “Hasan Sayed Sumon is yet to show any interest regarding his wife and young daughter’s welfare.”
“We talked with her for over an hour at the hospital, where she described their conjugal life. Sumon used to torture Rumana,” Mehedi said. He added that they didn’t record her statement and went to her residence where they took deposition of three people, including two domestic helps.
The Investigation officer of the case told The Independent, “According to the statements of Rumana Hasan, Sayed Sumon tried to strangulate Rumana by sitting on her chest.”
Quoting Rumana Farooquee, he also said “Sumon cheated Rumana by constantly lying to her.”
Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch police Monirul Islam told The Independent, “Rumana believes Hasan Syed Sumon would have killed her if the domestic helps hadn’t come to her rescue in time.”
