Detectives speak to Rumana, witnesses
Dhaka, June 22 (bdnews24.com)?Detectives have spoken to Rumana Monzur, the Dhaka University teacher who lost both the eyes to a brutal attack by her husband.
Investigators of the Detective Branch (DB) of police took statement of Rumana at LabAid Specialised Hospital from 11am to 12:45pm on Wednesday.
Detectives also took statement of three witnesses of the Dhanmondi residence of Rumana's father where she lived.
Rumana on June 5 was severely tortured by Hassan Syed, who after being arrested on June 15 claimed that a scuffle took place that day as he protested her alleged relationship with another man.
The case was filed by the victim's father on the following day.
Hassan is currently being quizzed by detectives.
Rumana whose eyes were ruptured by the brutal attack was taken to Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai and Arvind Eye Centre in Pondicherry for better treatment.
Doing a master's degree in political science at the Vancouver campus of the University of British Columbia in Canada, Rumana said her husband tried to gouge her eyes out and chew her nose off.
She was supposed to submit her thesis paper in October.
"He [Hassan] had many complexities and so he always tormented me psychologically. My conjugal life became a suffering for me," she said on Tuesday and demanded his punishment.
