6 'BGB recruiters' arrested
Dhaka, June 18 (bdnews24.com) ? The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six people on the charge of conning people of over Tk 10 million on the false promise of getting them jobs in the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The RAB personnel also recovered 65 fake appointment papers and Tk 11.2 million from their possession, said a press statement on Saturday.
A case was filed against five people, including a BGB member, with the New Market Police Station in the city on June 14 for collecting illegally about Tk 7.5 million from 50 people on false promises of getting them jobs in the force.
Apart from police, the RAB also started investigation into the case.
A RAB team conducted raids in different areas of the city on Friday night and arrested the six accused.
They were identified as Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman alias Shafique, 41, Mohammad Abdul Kuddus, 46, Mohammad Akther Hossain, 55, Mohammad Abdul Karim alias Momtaz, 27, Hosne Ara, 36, and Mohammad Shah Alam, 42.
The statement said of the six arrested, Shafique is a retired sergeant of Air Force and currently he describes himself as 'Major Shafique'. Another retired Air Force warrant officer Abdul Kuddus claims to be 'Major Firoz'. Akther is also a retired Air Force sergeant.
According to the release, Karim, who is a BGB soldier, gives his identity to the people as a BGB medical officer, while Hosne Ara is a Class III employee of the Kushtia General Hospital.
In 2009, RAB arrested Shafique on charges of recruiting manpower through deception. Then he would call himself 'Major Abdur Rahman'.
